Smith Decorations

About Us

Smith Decorators was established by Derek Smith in his home town of Chorley, Lancashire in 1961. Derek, a fully time served decorator, was accomplished in the traditional skills of marbling, graining and varnishing, in addition to the more well known skills of painting and wallpaper hanging.

The business began by accepting domestic commissions, but soon started to undertake large-scale commercial commissions such as churches, schools, pubs, offices and factories.

Throughout it’s history the company has always prided itself on delivering a high standard of work. Their customers still appreciate their old fashioned attitude towards quality and benefit from the sound advice and reliable service that Smith Decorators has built its business on.

Derek retired in 1994 and his daughter Karen and her business partner Chris Stanaway, a highly skilled decorator, who has many years experience in the industry now run the business.

Today Smiths Decorators focuses on commercial decorating projects and the refurbishment and decoration of hotels. They have been privileged to work on many prestigious hotels throughout the Northwest, including a wide variety of decorating projects for The McDonald Hotels Group.

In fulfilling these projects Smith Decorators have become skilled in the full project manage of refurbishment work, including employing subcontractors including plumbing, electricians etc, ordering materials including sanitary ware, and arranging and over seeing carpet laying.

Because of their size they are able to work flexibly. They can complete small one off commercial projects, but are also very comfortable using their wealth of experience in the hotel refurbishment trade to fully project manage large projects throughout the UK.

In 1970 Smith Decorators was accepted into the Guild of Master Craftsmen and they been a very proud member of the guild ever since.
